The 2015 Summary Meeting of the Guangdong Province Bacterial Resistance Surveillance Network, sponsored by Zhuhai Deer Bioengineering Co., Ltd. and Pfizer Inc., together with the Second Southern Infection Forum Academic Symposium, was successfully held on January 16, 2016, at the Rhine River Conference Hall of the Guangzhou Ocean Hotel.

Nearly one hundred expert speakers attended the conference, primarily comprising heads of microbiology laboratories and directors of clinical laboratories from tertiary hospitals in Guangdong Province that participate in both the National Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network and the provincial surveillance network, as well as microbiology laboratory directors from core secondary hospitals in Guangdong that are preparing to apply for inclusion in the surveillance network. During the event, Professor Zhuo Chao, head of the Southern Region of the National Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network, delivered academic lectures on “Latest Updates from the National Bacterial Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network” and “2015 Guangdong Provincial Bacterial Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Data Report.” Professor Wang Luxia from the General Hospital of the Guangzhou Military Region presented a report titled “The Importance of Fungal Microscopy and Common Challenges,” while Professor Su Danhong from the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University gave a lecture on “The Critical Role of Quality Control in Bacterial Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance.”

During the conference, participants actively raised a variety of issues they encounter in their daily work, engaging in lively exchanges with the experts and sparking vigorous discussions around the report’s representative data and clinical cases. Attendees freely shared their perspectives and contributed enthusiastically; in particular, they expressed strong agreement when addressing concerns such as the incomplete coverage of susceptibility breakpoints in certain commercially available bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing systems, as well as gaps in the data fields exported by WHONET.

The final item on the agenda was the awards ceremony, during which the organizing body presented certificates and cash prizes to institutions that demonstrated outstanding performance in antimicrobial resistance surveillance for 2015. The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and Zhujiang Hospital were awarded first prize, while Huizhou Central Hospital and two other institutions received second prize, and Yangjiang People’s Hospital along with three other institutions were honored with third prize.

Professor Zhuo Chao, head of the conference organizing committee, commended and recognized Dill Company for its professionalism and high efficiency throughout the event’s execution, expressing his hope for continued collaboration to jointly advance the development of domestic microbiology and the progress of China’s microbial science.
