It is used to restore the antibacterial activity of tigecycline and prevent the emergence of pseudo‑resistance. |
1. Tigecycline-induced pseudoresistance
Tigecycline, an important antimicrobial agent for treating infections caused by carbapenem‑resistant strains, holds significant clinical value. However, tigecycline exhibits relatively reactive physicochemical properties and contains polyphenolic groups, making it susceptible to environmental factors such as light and air. Whether in culture media or in broth–agar systems, it is readily subject to dissolution and oxidation, which can lead to false‑negative susceptibility results in in vitro antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
2. What should be done when tigecycline‑induced pseudo‑resistance is observed?
Studies have shown that when laboratories use automated instruments or the disk diffusion method to determine bacterial susceptibility to tigecycline, false intermediate or resistant results may occur. These findings should be confirmed by standard broth microdilution or the tigecycline MTS assay (with susceptible results reported directly). However, because most laboratories lack the capacity to perform standard broth microdilution and because tigecycline MTS strips are relatively expensive, routine confirmation of “intermediate” or “resistant” isolates is often impractical. Currently, it is recommended to use a tigecycline disk‑addition method with a resuscitation solution to re‑evaluate isolates that appear intermediate or resistant on automated systems or conventional disk diffusion assays.

3. Though “ants” are small, they can “move mountains.”
Dier has launched a new product—Tigecycline Re‑sensitization Solution—which can eliminate the influence of interfering factors in antimicrobial susceptibility testing, restore tigecycline’s antibacterial activity, maintain the assay reaction conditions, and ensure tigecycline’s stability across different environments.
Product Advantages:
(1) Easy to operate
Ready-to-use reagent; simply open the cap and use.
(2) Compact size, with only 0.5 mL per vial.
A single tigecycline susceptibility disk assay requires only 6 μL of buffer; a 0.5 mL vial can be used for more than 80 tests, ensuring both the efficacy of the buffer and the feasibility of multiple assays.
(3) Good stability
It exhibits no inhibitory activity against bacteria and can stably maintain the restoration of activity against tigecycline.

The diameter of the inhibition zone of tigecycline was increased by 4 mm in the presence of the resensitizing solution, indicating that the resensitizing solution can restore the antibacterial activity of tigecycline.
